Description

In accordance with Goal 8 of the Department of Transport’s National Sustainable Mobility Policy, the National Transport Authority wishes to undertake a National Household Travel Survey (NHTS) of 4,000 households throughout the Republic of Ireland between September 2024 and early December 2024. The purpose of the survey is to gather travel information statistics for the Authority’s ongoing transportation planning role, as well as to provide essential travel data for the update of its regional transport models, the development of additional transport modelling tools and monitoring and research on travel and transport. This survey will represent the fifth such NHTS - the first having been undertaken in 2012 and the most recent in 2023. The 2024 survey will also serve as a monitoring update on the 2022 and 2023 surveys. As such, the Authority is also aiming to obtain and compare cross-sectional travel-related statistics. I.e. Observed travel patterns at distinct points in time. The NHTS can help to understand relationships between travel patterns and other variables, like remote or hybrid working, sustainable mobility policy interventions, expansion of broadband internet connectivity…
