Description
The contracting authority would like to measure glide movements in the snow cover at Stavbrekkfonna by the winter closed county road 63 in Breiddalen in Skjåk municipality. Stavbrekkfonna is a so-called slide slider, where the entire snow pack slides on a surface that consists of a slippery and steep slab. The slide movement usually consists of a fast-paced movement, with the avalanche itself running shortly after gliding has exceeded a given speed. It is the slide movement ahead of the avalanche that is desired measured, as this can be used to predict whether an avalanche is imminent. The measurements should help the Contracting Authority estimate whether there are weeks, days or hours left before the avalanche passes. The goal is to predict the avalanche with 1-2 hours notice so that any work or traffic on the road can cease on time. The measurements will lead to increased safety for snow clearing crews and road users and allow the road to be opened earlier after the winter in some cases.
