Beschrijving
SURF transports scientific data, privacy sensitive data and data essential to the operation of its members. SURF also supports researchers with new technical capabilities that improve the way research can be performed. Quantum is one of the technological fields that have been identified as being relevant to SURF and its members. Quantum safety has for this reason become a topic of investigation. SURF has implemented this investigation in the Dutch European EURO-QCI project QCINed where SURF investigates encryption using cryptographic key generation based on Quantum Key Distribution, hereafter named QKD, because this can provide long-term protection of information against attacks by Quantum Computers. For the Dutch European EURO-QCI project QCI-Ned SURF requires a point-to-point QKD-system. This system will be used as a proof of concept in a development network to investigate QKD services and the co-existence with its A&O platform and classic network services.
