Description

The Faculty of Medical Sciences at Newcastle University has a well-established Core Scientific Research Facility model. The BioScreening Core Facility established over 10 years ago at the Campus for Ageing and Vitality is dedicated to the provision of services in the areas of sample processing, biomarker quantitative assays validation and assessment. For translational and clinical researchers, it establishes a much-needed connectivity with shared NHS clinical research facilities and it is often involved in clinical trials. Quite often, biomarker measurements in biological fluids fall below the quantitation limit of existing bioassays and platforms. This has significant implications for the quantification of the analytes in samples of clinical origin, the interpretation of the results and ultimately the strength and validity of translational research. We are therefore looking to incorporate to our facility an analyser for 96-well format single-molecule enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (digital ELISA) that can significantly expand the dynamic range of analyte detection and offers the flexibility to expand the ultrasensitive detection to our own assays already in place; the analyser…
