VisitBritain(VB)/VisitEngland(VE) is the national tourism agency, a non-departmental public body funded by the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) and our mission is to make tourism one of the most successful and productive sectors for the UK economy. We achieve this by supporting England's tourism industry, driving inbound visitor spend, providing expert advice to industry and to Government. VB/VE research utilises a range of travel and tourism statistics to monitor and predict international and domestic tourism flows. We have purchased subscriptions to flight bookings data for a number of years, and this data provides us with a short-term assessment of future inbound trends, including overall tourism performance, where demand is coming from, and recovery post-COVID. Consultation with internal and external stakeholders, alongside the results of several major reviews of tourism statistics, has demonstrated the need to supplement our existing insights with new data sources.
