In December 2020, the 4 transmission system operators, 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, Transnet BW, Tennet TSO GmbH and Amprion (hereinafter = TSOs) described the need for grid-forming STATCOM systems. Due to the large number of plants and the high time pressure caused by the energy transition, the German TSOs want to build the plants faster and more efficiently. One measure for high efficiency is standardization. In principle, standardization is always a trade-off between a gain in efficiency through the standardization of many plants and a loss in efficiency, as each individual plant can no longer be optimally adapted to the specific conditions.Considering the technical conditions in the grid, the most important key parameters, minimum service life and minimum availability of the E-STATCOM systems were identified and standardized values were defined for future projects in Germany.In order to examine the feasibility of the harmonized measures and to discuss the defined key performance indicators, the TSOs offer discussions with potential STATCOM manufacturers on the market.
