Description
The mental health of children and young people is a growing concern, with 1 in 6 affected and increasing rates of self-harm. Schools report rising emotional and mental health issues, but existing support is not universally accessible. Enhancing staff skills to support students can positively impact their well-being. The project aligns with public health goals to reduce suicide and self-harm. An evaluation of Solent Mind's Self Harm Support Service showed high satisfaction and increased confidence among participants. The resource hub has been widely used, indicating its effectiveness in providing additional support and information. The prevalence of mental health difficulties among children and young people in England has increased from 9.7% in 1999 to 11.2% in 2017. Self-harm, a significant public health concern, is a priority in national strategies and clinical guidelines. The NHS Long Term Plan has allocated £3.2bn for mental health, with a focus on children and young people. Initiatives include extending care pathways, introducing Mental Health Support Teams in schools, developing alternatives to A&E for crises, and creating a universal crisis access point through NHS 111. …
