Obveze zaštitara su: ophodnja štićenog objekta i prostora, kontrola ulaza i izlaza radnika, stranaka, davatelja usluga i izvođača radova, kontrola vozila, unosa i iznosa roba i sl. Zaposlenici ugovaratelja moraju posjedovati odgovarajuću licencu, moraju biti u odori, opremljeni potrebnom opremom (vozila, sredstva veze, svjetiljke, teleskopska ogledala, detektori metala i dr.) sukladno karakteristikama i važnosti prostora koji štite i koje će koristiti ovisno o potrebi ili nalogu korisnika, te poslove obavljati na visokoj profesionalnoj razini.
