Description
Vanuit de duurzaamheidsopgave ligt er een verplichting om gebouwen van Provincie Gelderland te verduurzamen. De opwek van energie via zonnepanelen is niet voldoende, waardoor naar alternatieven gezocht wordt. Eén van de mogelijke en onderzochte alternatieven is waterstof. Een extern haalbaarheidsonderzoek en ontwerpstudie heeft geleid tot een "all-in one"-oplossing, de Metal Hydride Storage van GKN, waarmee alle benodigde componenten voor het functioneren van een waterstof brandstofcelsysteem in één container zijn geïntegreerd en deze met eenvoudige aanvulling van componenten volledig zelfvoorzienend kan worden gemaakt. De voorgestelde technologie maakt gebruik van een metal hydride systeem. Waterstof wordt in metaalhydridevaten opgeslagen via omkeerbare chemische reacties tussen een metaallegering en gasvormige waterstof, met lage druk, waardoor er geen explosiegevaar is. Dit systeem bezit een waterstofcel wat waterstof omzet in stroom zonder emissie/uitstoot. Er komt alleen schoon water uit.
