Description
Het betreft de aanschaf van 3 nieuwe Zoë modules en een nieuwe Orb Hub voor de afdeling Genetica in het UMCG. Om valorisatie van de organ-on-chip technologie binnen IPSomics mogelijk te maken moet het verouderde Emulate systeem welke de afdeling Genetica heeft gebruikt worden uitgebreid en gemoderniseerd om de werkzaamheden te kunnen continueren en uit te breiden. De twee oude Zoë modules kunnen niet meer worden onderhouden (worden uitgefaseerd door Emulate) en zullen bij technische problemen dus definitief uitvallen. Het is niet mogelijk om gebruik te maken van een alternatief platform. De afdeling Genetica heeft 7 jaar geïnvesteerd in de ontwikkeling van dunne darm-op-chip en lever-op-chip op het Emulate systeem, wat momenteel wereldwijd het meest gebruikte ‘plug-and-play systeem’ wat kan worden gebruikt. Het systeem wordt ook door de pharmaceutische industrieen de FDA gebruikt als vervanger van diermodellen. Als we overnieuw zouden moeten beginnen met het opzetten van onze modellen op andere systemen, dan is de verwachting dat er jarenlang vertraging zal optreden wat funest zou zijn voor de promotietrajecten van 4 PhD-studenten, en voor de ‘vliegende start’ van iPsomics.
