De sex medlemskommunerna är Västerås, Hallstahammar, Surahammar, Arboga, Kungsör och Köping. Räddningstjänsten Mälardalen ska nu bygga ny brandstation i Köpings kommun, för ersättning för äldre lokaler, som även ska ha täckning för Kungsörs och Arbogas kommuner.
