Södra kajen öster om Hamnbron är en del av stadsomvandlingsprojektet Inre hamnen och kommer genomföras som en totalentreprenad i partnering. Projektets syfte är renovering av del av Södra kajen, mellan Hamnbron och Varvsbron, för att allmänhet ska kunna nyttja ytan och att båtar ska kunna angöra. Projektet är en del i att möjliggöra framtida utveckling av Sylten till en del av Norrköpings innerstad och även stärka kopplingen mellan Inre hamnen och södra sidan om Motala ström.
