Description
The Contracting Authority (“CA”) intends to issue a tender for the design, manufacture, transport, installation, testing, commissioning and protection of 245kV and 145kV XLPE onshore cable circuits across 21km of cable route in Ragusa, Sicily, 2km cable route in Maghtab Malta, short runs at Maghtab Terminal Station and at Ragusa substation, terminations and related civil works and supports. These cables shall form part of the second electrical interconnection project between Malta and Italy and shall be connecting the submarine cable from the transition joint up to the onshore stations, and inside the terminal substations to connect new equipment to the switchgear. The interconnection project is required to further diversify the island’s energy sources and meet the projected increase in electricity demand from economic growth and electrification of the transport sector whilst enabling more large scale indigenous Renewable Energy. The preliminary technical requirements of this project have been established by a front-end engineering design (FEED) study commissioned by the contracting authority (CA).
