Description

The supplies will contribute to the construction of a magnetically shielded chamber. In addition to wood and electrical steel, the supplies will consist of plates made from a special alloy called Mu-metal. This specific alloy is needed to build the shielding, given its extreme magnetic permeability. In concrete terms, the equivalent of 1.8 t of Mu-metal is needed to build the chamber. Once manufactured, the Mu-metal will have been cut to size, then heat-treated in special furnaces to obtain its shielding properties. For more technical information on supplies, see Part B.
