Description

The proposed development comprises a new two-storey over (existing) basement building at 8/9 Moore Lane Dublin 1, a site which abuts the rere of the buildings at 14/17 Moore St and which itself falls within the boundary of the designated National Monument at that location. The houses at 14/17 Moore St are of particular historic significance because of their role in the 1916 Rising and which are, in service to the conclusions of the Moore St Advisory Group, a consultation process created by the Government to advise on the way forward for the site, being conserved and opened to the public as a visitor attraction. The proposed development of a new building at the Moore Lane site will form a companion building which is complementary to the existing historic buildings on Moore St and which will, when complete, form the unitary visitor experience at the site. The entire of the site, including both the historic houses and the site to the rere, is designated as a National Monument and the development of the new building will therefore be subject to particular constraints, including observance of the Ministerial Consent which is a Statutory process under the National Monuments Act.
