Description
In 2021 the Cargo bike pilot project was carried out in collaboration with Beeper and was funded by NTA. During the pilot phase, 22 businesses participated over a span of 16 months, it became evident that this initiative was a resounding success. This low-risk, cost- effective trial period allowed businesses to experience the benefits of a cargo bike without committing to a substantial investment in delivery bicycles. As part of the pilot project, businesses paid €100 rental charge per month, DCC subsidised this rental charge by up to €189 per month ex VAT, non-profit organisations paid no rental charge, while DCC subsidised the full amount of up to €289 rental charge per month ex VAT i.e. non-profit financial model was fully funded by DCC. All participants were allocated a period not exceeding 12 months. Due to the overwhelming success of the project in partnership with Bleeper, Dublin City Council is now considering expanding the initiative by involving multiple project partners and other local authorities across Dublin.
