Description

The King’s Island Flood Relief Scheme primarily consists of: • 2,200 metres of 2.5-metre-high earthen flood embankment involving importation of 97,300m3 of Class 2F core fill and 55,400m3 of Class 4 Landscape fill with 3-metre-wide footpath/cycleway and public lighting • Flood defence upgrades to existing quay walls involving: o Deconstruction of existing quay walls and parapets o Lime mortar repointing, lime grouting and stonework repair to 870 metres of existing quay walls, approximately 4 metres high o Construction of:  290 metres of flood defence walls with glass panels  810 metres of stone clad reinforced concrete flood defence walls Associated works include:- • Topsoil stripping, site clearance and fencing • Mass concrete backing wall foundations with lime mortar spray on inside face of quay walls • 2 No. automatic rising and demountable flood barriers • 3 No. below ground inter-tidal storage tanks, structural volume of 750m3, 445m3 and 390m3 • 600 metres of access routes to flood embankment walkway and new fisherman’s access • 800 metres upgrade to outer walkway including cutting down of existing sheet piles • 6,400m2 of road resurfacing and reconstruction • 7,600m2 of gra…
