Description
The Council Recommendation on ensuring a fair transition towards climate neutrality was adopted by the Member States in June 2022, as integral part of the ‘Fit for 55’ package. The Council Recommendation provides policy guidance to Member States on how to address the employment and social aspects of the transition and also outlines the commitment of the Commission to strengthen the knowledge base for policymaking and public debate related to fair transition. To date, numerous stakeholders have called upon the Commission to advance and strengthen the EU’s just transition framework. In this context, this upcoming call for tenders seeks proposals for the establishment of an EU Fair Transitions Observatory in 2024. The Observatory is expected to facilitate the monitoring and implementation of fair transition policies across the EU, at all levels and involving key stakeholders, in different domains beyond coal intensive regions and sectors.
