Description
Das California Institute of Technology, vertreten durch Caltech Optical Observatories, und das ISTA beabsichtigen, gemeinsam ein neues Instrument für das Hale-Teleskop am Palomar-Observatorium für wissenschaftliche Forschung zu entwickeln, zu testen und zu nutzen. Dazu wird eine Kooperationsvereinbarung von fünf Jahren abgeschlossen. Eine Forschungsgruppe am ISTA wird sich nach Fertigstellung des Prototyps auf die Erforschung stellarer Astrophysik fokussieren und dazu große Datensätze erheben und analysieren, um die stellare Evolution in Sternhaufen zu erforschen, kompakte Binärsysteme und deren Überreste zu studieren und Neutronensterne sowie Schwarze Löcher im Röntgenbereich zu untersuchen.
