Die Deutsche Nationalbibliothek hat den gesetzlichen Auftrag, ihre Bestände sowohl physisch als auch digital zu sammeln und der breiten Öffentlichkeit verfügbar zu machen. Um die hiermit verbundenen Aufgaben und Ziel möglichst effizient und zielgerichtet zu erfüllen bedarf es einer auf die Geschäftsfertigkeiten optimal ausgerichtet Unternehmensarchitektur. Die Vielfältigkeit und der Umfang der Aufgaben bedingen eine umfangreiche und komplexe Geschäfts-, Informations- und Technologiearchitektur. Um strategische Entscheidungen auf einer fundierten Grundlage zu treffen, benötigt die Deutsche Nationalbibliothek ein IT-System zur Verwaltung, Pflege und flexiblen Auswertung der der Unternehmensarchitektur zugrundeliegenden Daten.
