Το έργο θα συμβάλει στην αντιπλημμυρική προστασία σε ένα μεγάλο μέρος της πόλης της Κοζάνης αυξάνοντας την ασφάλεια από φυσικές καταστροφές λόγω νεροποντής και θα αποσυμφορήσει την ΕΕΛ Κοζάνης από όμβρια ύδατα που σήμερα καταλήγουν εκεί μέσω του παντορροικού δικτύου της πόλης.
