Beskrivelse
Background: Kenya has been a host country for asylum seekers and refugees from the region for decades. With the Refugees Act, 2021 and the Shirika Plan, 2025, the Government of Kenya (GoK) set out an ambitious, sustainable approach to refugee management, with a move away from encampment towards socio-economic inclusion of refugees. This represents a major shift of roles between the government and humanitarian actors, with the government taking on more responsibility for provision of shared services to refugees and host communities. The Danish Embassy in Nairobi supports the transition to government-led inclusive service delivery for refugees and host communities in the areas of education, health & water through the Inclusive Refugee Response Programme (IRRP) in Kenya, which runs until the end of 2027. The programme is implemented in Kakuma-Kalobeyei in Turkana County, with supplementary activities at the national level.
