Description
Historically, Network Rail railway infrastructure surveying has required a boots on ballast approach, involving people walking the track to gain both infrastructure and lineside intelligence. This could include but not be limited to; site surveying for renewals work, infrastructure and asset condition monitoring, seasonal management, access point location review/identification, monitoring security and areas prone to graffiti, signal sighting reviews etc. Where possible, Network Rail has made a conscious decision to invest in systems which enable these activities to take place from the comfort and safety of an office environment. By utilising video footage of the railway network, captured from multiple different sources, this allows a digital view of the network to be pieced together and made accessible nationwide to both Network Rail employees and Network Rail stakeholders alike. Network Rail are looking to procure solutions that will enable effective capture, storage, visualization, and exploitation of video data of the railway network.
