Lapin hyvinvointialue ottaa omaksi toiminnakseen osan ulkoistetuista terveyspalveluista. Lapin hyvinvointialueen lääkäritehtäviä hoidetaan ensisijaisesti virkatyönä, mikäli virkalääkäreitä on saatavilla. Toiminnan jatkuvuuden turvaamiseksi Lapin hyvinvointialue hankkii tarvittavan osan lääkärityöstä henkilöstövuokrauksena tekemällä siitä määräaikaiset hankintasopimukset.
