Am Abfallwirtschaftszentrum Rothmühle betreiben die AES GmbH (Nassvergärung) und der Landkreis (Trockenvergärung) je eine Vergärungsanlage. Die Verwertung des Rohbiogases aus der Landkreisanlage und aus der Anlage der AES GmbH mit einem jährlichen Energiegehalt von zusammen ca. 20.000.000 kWh soll nach Ablauf der bisherigen EEG-Förderdauer zum 01.01.2028 neu geregelt werden.
