Het Centrum voor Milieukunde heeft een reeks kleinschalige Ecotron-eenheden nodig (werktitel Rapid Assessment Units, RAU's) als een op maat gemaakte oplossing, die volledig gesloten en gecontroleerde mesokosmosystemen vertegenwoordigen die (agro-) ecosysteemanalyses in realtime mogelijk maken.
