Description
De gemeente moet bij elk plan en project rekening houden met de Wet natuurbescherming. Deze wet borgt de bescherming van verblijfplaatsen van dieren en groeiplaatsen van planten. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan vleermuizen die in de spouwmuur van een te slopen gebouw verblijven. Sloop van het gebouw mag dan alleen met een ontheffing van de Wet natuurbescherming. Om een plan of project uit te voeren vraagt de gemeente daarom aan externe ecologische adviesbureaus bepaalde onderzoeken uit te voeren of te adviseren. Die onderzoeken zijn nodig om aanwezigheid van beschermde soorten uit te sluiten of om een ontheffing te kunnen aanvragen bij het bevoegd gezag. Zie leidraad.
