Description
EMSA is currently providing technical assistance to ENP and Enlargement partner countries in the area of maritime safety, maritime security, marine pollution/prevention, preparedness and response. This includes enhancing the traffic monitoring capabilities of the beneficiary countries, promoting Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) information sharing at regional level and implementation of Vessel Traffic Monitoring and Information Systems (VTMIS) as tools to improve the safety of navigation and consequently environmental protection. Lack of or inadequate shore-based AIS infrastructures, in some of the beneficiary countries, has been identified as a limitation for the full utilization of the possibilities offered by a fully operational monitoring system. The overall aim of this procedure is to conclude a Framework Contract for Supplies for the provision of shore-based AIS equipment to ENP and Enlargement countries.
