Description

MICADO at the Extremely Large Telescope MICADO, or the Multi-Adaptive Optics Imaging CamerA for Deep Observations, is one of the first- light instruments for the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT). It is an imager and spectrograph with a wavelength coverage in the near-infrared (0.8–2.4 µm). Coating specifications apply for a larger wavelength range, driven by detector sensitivity. MICADO will equip the ELT with a first light capability for diffraction limited imaging at near-infrared wavelengths. The design of MICADO was driven by a desire for high sensitivity and resolution, astrometric accuracy, and wide wavelength coverage for spectroscopy. For more info see here: https://www.mpe.mpg.de/ir/micado NOVA’s role in the MICADO project Within MICADO NOVA is responsible for a cryogenic subsystem of the MICADO instrument: the filterwheels, pupilwheel, and Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector. In order to reach the required sensitivity, it is important that the transmission in the scientifically interesting wavelength range is as high as possible, while at the same time the out-of-band blocking is also high. Only this way can the requested Signal-to-Noise ratio be reached. T
