Description
The Core Facility for Preclinical Proton Therapy and Imaging (KPPA) at the Institute for Cancer Research at Oslo University Hospital (OUS) is in need of a software for treatment planning with protons and x-rays in small animals (mice and rats). At KPPA, there is a proton gantry dedicated to experimental research, which will be adapted for irradiation of research animals. Additionally, the core facility has an X-ray source for reference experiments. The facility requires a system ('dose planning’ or ‘treatment planning’) to plan radiation fields, calculate and map radiation doses in research animals, especially mice and rats. The system should be used to plan various types of radiation treatments in these animals. The system must be able to read CT images of the animals and use them as a planning and calculation basis. The desired software must therefore be capable of detailed dose planning for both proton- and X-irradiation. It is especially critical that the system can handle proton irradiations, as this is the main focus for the core facility.
