Description

TELT company is the public developer in charge of building and managing the cross-border section of the the new Lyon-Turin railway link project. This transalpine link is a mixed passenger/freight rail project linking up France and Italy. The cross-border section is about 65 km long between Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne (Savoy) and Susa/Bussoleno (Piedmont). The value of the entire project has been estimated at EUR 8.6 billion. The main element in the project is the Mont-Cenis base tunnel, 57.5 km long (with 45 km in France and 12.5 km in Italy), that will connect the international railway stations of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne and Susa where the links to the French and Italian mainline rail networks are located. The purpose of this contract is to transfer construction risks through a construction insurance programme which is intended to cover the base tunnel, the projected cost of which is EUR 5.5 billion.
