Description
The University of Groningen (UG) is a leader in advanced biomedical research, with a strong focus on spatially resolved molecular analysis of human and animal tissues, cultured cells, and diverse biomaterials. A key component of this research is the ability to map the distribution of endogenous and exogenous biomolecules—including proteins, peptides, lipids, metabolites, glycans, and drugs—with high spatial resolution and molecular specificity. To support and expand this capability, UG seeks to acquire a state-of-the-art an external atmospheric pressure matrix assisted laser desorption/ionisation (AP-MALDI) source compatible with Orbitrap Exploris and Tribrid systems. This AP-MALDI source must enable rapid true plug-and-play source interchangeability with ESI, APCI, and other AP ion sources—within less than one minute—offering unmatched flexibility in modern analytical workflows. The source should provide sub 10 µm spatial resolution and with the Orbitrap system a high mass resolution mass spectrometry imaging platform.
