Description
The bilateral programme Supporting Climate Policy and Energy Transition in Mozambique is a Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) project commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), aiming to strengthen Mozambique"s institutional capacities and contributes to the National Development Strategy 2015-2035. The project supports Mozambique's commitment to setting ambitious, realistic and science-based Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for the 2025 NDC Update Report, while promoting long-term climate resilience and a transition to renewable energy sources on a low emissions development pathway. Recent policy dialogues indicate that Mozambique does not yet have a long-term strategy or a net zero target, although in 2021, Mozambique started to formulate its Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy (LT-LEDS). In addition, the GoM extended its NDC Implementation Plan for 2023-2030. However, it has not submitted a 2030 target or long-term strategy to the UNFCCC.
