Description
The SPARK project is designed to promote sustainable economic development in Africa by addressing gaps in the technology and innovation ecosystems, particularly around climate-friendly and gender-just innovations. It aims to empower African professionals, especially women, by promoting equal participation in the tech sector, strengthening partnerships between research institutions, startups, and the private sector, and creating gender-responsive financing mechanisms. The project focuses on bridging the gap between research and practical applications in tech, encouraging collaboration to drive innovation. It addresses challenges such as underrepresentation of local actors and women in the innovation landscape and the lack of purpose fit funding options for climate tech. Despite an increase in venture capital for climate tech, African companies often miss out on crucial funding and support. By addressing the identified challenges and leveraging the strengths of diverse partners, SPARK aims to promote sustainable economic development through technology and digital-based innovations, contributing to modernizing the economy and addressing climate change.
