Description

GIZ has been commissioned to implement the project "National Solid Waste Management Programme III (NSWMP III)" in Egypt on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The overall objective of the project is to increase efforts of state institutions, private sector companies and non-governmental organisations towards climate-friendly solid waste management and circular economy in Egypt. At the national level the project is implemented jointly with the Ministry of Environment (MoE) and the Waste Management Regulatory Agency (WMRA). At the local level the project supports four governorates, namely Kafr El-Sheikh, Gharbeya, Qena and Assiut, in municipal solid waste management. The project is jointly implemented with the German Development Bank KfW which is financing infrastructure investment measures and solid waste collection equipment in the four governorates on behalf of BMZ. The project further includes a co-financing arrangement through the EU action "Support for Growth through Egyptian Environmental Networks (EU GREEN)".
